Our Veteran and Para-Athletes, with a Spirit of Sportsmanship and Faith, Are the True Pride of the Nation

On the first day of Paralympic Week, the President of the National Paralympic Committee delivered a speech before the Friday Prayer Sermons in Tehran, during which the Tehran prayer leader also congratulated the occasion and praised the nation’s veteran and para-athletes as the true sources of pride for the country.

According to the Public Relations Department of the National Paralympic Committee, coinciding with October 9th, the start of Paralympic Week, Dr. Ghafour Kargari, President of the National Paralympic Committee, was the pre-sermon speaker at today’s Friday Prayer held at the University of Tehran.

Hojjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Haj Ali Akbari, the Friday Prayer Leader of Tehran, in part of his remarks, congratulated the Paralympic Week and expressed his appreciation to the Paralympic athletes and officials, saying: “Our veteran and para-athletes, with their spirit of sportsmanship and faith, are the true pride of the nation. The female Paralympic champion who stood on the world podium while maintaining her hijab and her identity as a mother demonstrated that the dignity of a Muslim woman transcends the imposed Western standards.”

Dr. Kargari, in his pre-sermon speech, presented a report on the great achievements of the Paralympic movement, which have repeatedly brought honor to the name of Iran around the world, emphasizing that these achievements are among the fruits of the Islamic Revolution. He also provided an overview of the historical formation and organizational structure of Paralympic sports in Iran.

The President of the National Paralympic Committee highlighted the outstanding performances of women throughout various editions of the Paralympic and Asian Para Games, naming prominent figures such as Sareh Javanmardi and Zahra Nemati, whose inspiring achievements have been recognized as exemplary models globally.
He further referred to the International Paralympic Committee’s designation of Iran as the leading country in the development of women’s Paralympic sports for the year 2025, describing it as a testament to the significance of women’s sports within the Paralympic movement.

It is noteworthy that today’s Friday Prayer in Tehran was attended by a number of champions and athletes from the federations of veterans and persons with disabilities, the visually impaired and blind, as well as officials of the National Paralympic Committee.
